We're going
transparent
What is a climate footprint?

It’s all about the emissions! For Good Oat produced in New Zealand, the climate footprint measures the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the whole manufacturing process from agriculture, ingredients, packaging, and transportation to our amazing customers.

Why is All Good going ‘climate transparent’?

Here at All Good we know that climate change is a pretty important topic for Kiwis. In fact, we’re already being directly affected by it and the adverse weather effects from global warming. We also know that our customers are the type of people who care enough to make small, good choices, and are aware of their own carbon footprints. So, we want to do our part as well and being completely transparent about our own climate footprint makes perfect sense.

We are now producing Good Oat right here in New Zealand, and in doing that we have achieved a big sustainability goal. Oat milk won’t be shipped to Aotearoa anymore, so that’s a big goodbye to some big emissions, reducing our carbon footprint by around 75% year on year. Plus, we’ll also be using local ingredients.

In going climate transparent we’ll change the way we account for carbon in all our Fairtrade Bananas and plant milks, and the new climate footprints of our products will appear on all our packaging. We’re also pretty pleased to announce that our New Zealand made Good Oat Barista (the first NZ plant milk to be assessed by CarbonCloud) has a low climate footprint of just 0.48 kg CO2e/kg. This tiny footprint makes oat milk a great choice for the climate, especially when compared to dairy milk.

How is it calculated?

CarbonCloud is a respected international company that has developed software to help calculate and communicate the total climate footprint of food products, map out the supply chain, and identify how to reduce emissions together with suppliers, from farm to shelf. All this helps consumers to make better- informed climate-conscious choices.

What other good things are we doing?

We have a number of key projects on the go that will help us lower our climate footprint even more. We’ve been measuring and lowering our banana carbon footprint for the last 3 years. In Ecuador our growers have converted packing stations to solar power, reduced chemical fertilisers by moving to organic fertilisers, are now using drones to help control pests. They’ve also reduced their water use through clever irrigation systems, and recycle all their on-farm plastic.

This is just the beginning. We’re committed to continuous improvement in our business and believe that accounting for our impacts and carbon, and publishing our products' climate footprint will be the best way to hold ourselves accountable for how we do business and the choices we make that affect the environment. Plus, we’ll continue working to do better for the growers, for the planet, and for our customers.

Our carbon footprint of 0.48 kg CO2e/kg of Good Oat Barista is lower because our NZ oat milk is not shipped from Sweden to New Zealand, we use Food & Beverage cartons not plastic, we joined the FBC National Recycling Scheme and we choose local ingredients where possible. All of these little things make a big difference to the total carbon emissions of our oat milk.

As we continue our climate transparency journey we’ll be publishing the climate footprints of Good Oat Barista & Original and All Good Fairtrade Bananas in 2024 for everyone to read.

Thank you for making the good choices, and for joining us on our sustainability journey.
